Every year, thousands of parents receive the same recommendation from their child's doctor. The adenoids are enlarged. The airway is blocked. Surgery is the next step.
Most of them have already been watching it happen for months. Their child wakes up at two in the morning with a dry mouth, confused about why they feel so awful. The snoring you can hear through the wall at night. The mouth breathing that never stops. The ear infections that keep coming back. The teacher calling because of concentration- and behavioural issues. The falling asleep on the backseat on a five minute drive home.
They have tried things. They have bought air purifiers, changed bedding, given antihistamines, tried nasal sprays. Some have changed their child's diet. Some have seen multiple specialists. Nothing worked.
And then the surgeon says it. "Surgery."
Most parents sitting with that recommendation are wondering the same thing. Whether there is an option no one has told them yet.
